We have made it to the last few cantos in Dante’s epic work, The Divine Comedy. This coming Monday (April 3rd) will be our last session for this series. We will complete The Paradiso, and then have time for a bit of a debrief and discussion about our individual take-aways from the whole journey through hell, purgatory, and heaven. Please read as much of cantos XX-XXXIII as you can for our discussion.
Because it is Holy Week, we want to also have an opportunity to do a corporal work of mercy together. We will have a brief presentation from a new friend of mine who runs a beautiful and unique charity to bring art and music into area nursing homes. Check out the Tidewater Art Outreach website for more: https://tidewaterartsoutreach.org.
After Monday, we will be taking a break until we start up again June 4th. We will have a complete calendar of the summer series on Papal Documents Every Catholic Should Know very soon.
Finally, here is one more reminder about the Tenebrae Service which will be held in the church on Tuesday, April 4th at 7:00pm. Tenebrae is a beautiful ritual that dates back to the 9th Century. It combines music with the prophetic psalms of the Messiah, as well as a gradual extinguishing of candles until the church is in darkness. This will be a powerful addition to Holy Week for all of us.
Thank you for what has been a wonderful three months of study and reflection on one of the Church’s great literary masterpieces. If you want to review, the podcasts for our series are available here.
